15 Famous People From Hawaii

Hawaii is a beautiful place where many famous people are from. These are fifteen famous people who are from the beautiful state called Hawaii. This is a new series about famous people who were born or from particular states. The part of the series will be famous people from Hawaii. These are not all the famous people who were born or from Hawaii. These 15 famous people from Hawaiiwere chosen at my discretion and every one of them were actually born in Hawaii.



Tia Carrere- Tia Carrere was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1967; she is a Singer and actress. She is most well-known for her role as Wayne's girlfriend in the "Wayne's World" movies.

Benjamin Jerome Cayetano- Benjamin Jerome Cayetano was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in1939 Benjamin Jerome "Ben" Cayetano served as the fifth Governor of the State of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002. He is the first Filipino American to serve as a state governor in the United States.

Ronald Maurice Darling Jr- Ron Darling was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1960, Ron Darling Is an American former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the New York Mets, Oakland Athletics and Montreal Expos. Ron Darling was a World Series Champion in 1986 with the New York Mets

Sanford Ballard Dole Sanford Ballard Dole was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1844 and he passed in 1926, he was a lawyer and jurist in the Hawaiian Islands as a kingdom, protectorate, republic and territory. Serving as a friend of both Hawaiian royalty and the elite immigrant community, Dole advocated the westernization of Hawaiian government and culture.

Bethany Meilani Hamilton- Bethany Meilani Hamilton was born in Kauai, Hawaii in 1990. Bethany Meilani Hamilton Is an American surfer. She is known for surviving a shark attack in which she lost her left arm, and for overcoming the serious and debilitating injury to return to surfing.

Michelle Sung Wie- Michelle Sung Wie was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1989, Michelle Wie Is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. In 2006, she was named in a Time magazine article as "one of 100 people who shape our world. At age 10, she became the youngest player to qualify for USGA amateur championship. Wie would also become the youngest winner of the US Women's Amateur public links and the youngest to qualify for a LPGA tour event. Michelle Wie is a young tennis star from Hawaii

Bob Shane- Bob Shane was born in Hilo, Hawaii in 1934, Bob Shane was born as Robert Castle Schoen, is an American singer and guitarist and, the only surviving founding member of The Kingston Trio. In that capacity, Shane became a seminal figure in the revival of folk and other acoustic music as a popular art form in the U.S. in the late 1950s through the mid-1960's.

Ellison Shoji Onizuka-Ellison Shoji Onizuka was born in Kona, Hawaii in 1946 and he passed in 1986 in the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster. Ellison Shoji Onizuka successfully flew into space with the Space Shuttle Discovery on STS-51-C, before losing his life to the destruction of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

Barack Obama-Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii allegedly in 1961, Barack Obama was elected a US Senator from Illinois in 2004. Four years after winning his Senate seat, Obama won the Presidency in an electoral-college landslide and became the 44th President of the United States. Barack Obama is the first African-American president of the United States of America and he may be the most liberal President ever.

Bette Midler- Bette Midler was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1945, Bette Midler is a famous actress and singer made famous in the movie Beaches.

Duke Paoa Kahanamoku-Duke Paoa Kahanamoku was born in Waikiki, Hawaii in 1890 and he passed in 1968, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku was Hawaii's first Olympic medalist in swimming, and is one of the most famous people from Hawaii and generally regarded as the person who popularized the modern sport of surfing. He was also an Olympic champion in swimming. The name "Duke" is not a title, but a given name. He was named after his father, Halapu Kahanamoku, who was christened "Duke" by Bernice Pauahi Bishop in honor of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, who was visiting Hawaii at the time of the elder man's birth in 1869. The younger "Duke," as eldest son, inherited the name from his father

Don Ho-Don Ho was born in 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii and he passed in 2007, Don Ho is Hawaii's most famous entertainer, Don Ho died from cardiac arrest after dealing with heart problems

Daniel K. Inouye-Daniel K. Inouye was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1924, Daniel K. Inouye is the first member of the U.S. Congress from Hawaii, and the first Japanese American to serve in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.

Nicole Mary Kidman-Nicole Kidman was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1967, Nicole Kidman is an Academy Award-winning actress. In 2006, she was the highest-paid actress in the motion picture industry. After making various appearances in film and television, Kidman received her breakthrough role in the 1989 thriller Dead Calm. Kidman is also a UNIFEM and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and a singer. Because she was born to Australian parents in Hawaii, Kidman has dualcitizenship of Australia and the US.

Akebono Taro-Akebono Taro was born in Waimanalo, Hawaii in 1969 as Chad Haaheo Rowan and is a retired sumo wrestler. Akebono Taro became the first foreign born wrestler ever to reach Yokozuna, the highest rank in sumo, on January 27, 1993. His name Akebono means "dawn" in Japanese. During his 13 years of sumo wrestling, Akebono won the Emperor's Cup a total of 11 times, with a record of 566-198 in the top division. Akebono's rivalry with the brothers, Takanohana and Wakanohana, led to the popularity of sumo on TV in the late 1980s and the early 1990s.

Hawaii has reared famous actresses like Nicole Kidman and Bette Midler, famous singers like Don Ho and Bob Shane, famous surfers like Bethany Meilani Hamilton and Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. Hawaii has reared famous sports stars like Ron Darling and Michelle Wie, along with our 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
