California is located on the West Coast of the United States and is nicknamed the Golden State. California is the third largest of all the states and is more populated than any other state. The capital of California is Sacramento and there are five large cities in the state; Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose and Fresno. California is the 31st state in the union and was admitted into the Union in 1850. These are the fifteen most famous people who are from California. There are some added honorable mentions because California is such a large state with so many people.


Troy Aikman (1966 - ) Troy Aikman was born in West Covina, California. He was an NFL football player/ Pro Bowl quarterback for theDallas Cowboys. Troy Aikman led the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl wins and he was the Super Bowl XXVII MVP. Troy Aikman was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
Marcus Allen (1960 - ) Marcus Allen was born in San Diego, California. Marcus Allen was a Pro Bowl running back in the NFL who played most of his career for the Oakland Raiders. Marcus Allen won the Super Bowl in 1983 and was the Super Bowl MVP; he was NFL MVP in 1985. Marcus Allen is a Heisman Trophy winner and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
Gracie Allen (1906 - 1964) was born in San Francisco; California Gracie Allen was a U.S. Actress who teamed up with her husband George Burns as a zany/wacky comedy team. Gracie Allen played in movies on the radio and had a television show with her husband George Burns called "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" which aired on CBS from 1950-1958
Shirley Temple (1928 - ) Shirley Temple was born in Santa Monica, California, she was a 1930s child actress and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Ghana and Czechoslovakia. Shirley Temple began her acting career as a very cute three year old, became a star by 1934 and won a special Academy Award in 1935.
Joe DiMaggio (1914 - 1999) Joe DiMaggio was born in Martinez, California. He won three MVP awards as a MLB baseball center fielder. Joe DiMaggio holds the record for hitting safely in 56 straight games; he was an All-Star New York Yankee player who batted .325 for his entire career. Joe DiMaggio won nine World Series with the New York Yankees and was called Joltin Joe. Joe DiMaggio was voted into Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955 and his New York Yankee #5 Jersey was retired.
Robert Frost (1874 - 1963) Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, California. Robert Frost was a four-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for poetry and was a leading poet in the 20th century. Robert Frost is one of the greatest and well known poets of all time.
Bruce Lee (1940 - 1973) Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco, California and was a Chinese American and Hong Kong actor, martial arts instructor, philosopher, film director, film producer, screenwriter, and founder of the Jeet Kune Do martial arts movement. He is considered one of the most influential martial artists of the 20th century, and a cultural icon. Bruce Lee made many martial arts movies and his death was always considered very suspicious.
Greg LeMond (1961 - ) Greg LeMond was born in Lakewood, California, he was a World Champion bicyclist that also won the Tour de France three times, he was shot in a hunting accident in 1987, but he survived with 37 shot gun pellets remaining in his body, his anti-doping stance was very controversial and he did not make friends with the other bicyclists in the sport.
George Lucas (1944 - ) George Lucas was born in Modesto, California. He is a famous Filmmaker and the mastermind behind the Star Wars features and the Indiana Jones movies, he has a net worth of around 3 billion dollars
Marilyn Monroe (1926 - 1962) Marilyn Monroe was born in Los Angeles, California Famous 1950's actress and considered one of the most famous women of the 20th Century. Marilyn Monroe was married to James Dougherty, Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller. Marilyn Monroe was thought to have had affairs with John Kennedy and President Robert Kennedy.

Nixon (1913 - 1994) Richard Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, California and was the 37th President of the United States-He was a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy during World War II-Richard Nixon was Vice President for Dwight D. Eisenhower-Was involved in the Watergate Scandal and had to resign his office as President of the United States.
Robert Redford (1936 - ) Robert Redford was born in Santa Monica, California and is a famous Actor and founder of the Sundance Institute. Robert Redford is also a film director, producer, businessman, model and environmentalist. Robert Redford won two Oscars, one for "Ordinary People and the other as a lifetime achievement award.
John Steinbeck (1902 - 1968) was born in Salinas, California, he was a famous Author known for famous works such as Tortilla Flat and Of Mice and Men and the Pulitzer Prize winning novel "The Grapes of Wrath. John Steinbeck wrote a total of twenty-seven books.
Natalie Wood (1938 - 1981) Natalie Wood was born in San Francisco, California and became a child movie star when she played Susan Walker, the little girl who doubts Santa Claus in 1947's Miracle on 34th Street, she also played in West Side Story and her death was suspicious
Eldrick "Tiger" Woods (1975 - ) Tiger Woods was born in Cypress, California and is a Famous golfer who has revolutionized the sport since becoming a pro in 1996. Tiger Woods is already one of the most successful golfers in the history of the sport, he has 14 Major Championship wins. Tiger Woods cheated on his wife numerous times and the two were divorced in 2010. Tiger Woods did not win any tournaments in 2010.
