When The Doorbell Rings

Not too many people enjoy strange people coming to their door. You hear the door bell ring and you look at your door. Some strange person is standing there looking back at you. You have no idea who they are, but your first thoughts are it's a salesperson or some out of this world cult. If you are like me, you really don't want to answer the door. I usually try to hide out of view until the person gets tired of knocking and gives up bothering me. It sounds mean, but it is hard dealing with life and all of the people trying to sell you something at your own front door. We live in one of those communities where you are not allowed to sell stuff to the residents. The businesses here do not care and try to sell you everything you could think of.

A couple of months ago, the doorbell rang. My ears perked up again, I looked at the door and hid as fast as I could. The doorbell rang again and the person began to knock on the door. After five minutes of continuous knocking and bell ringing, I decided this person was not about to give up. I finally came out of my hiding spot and went over to the door. The man looked at me, handed me papers and told me I had been served. He also had me sign some more paperwork, told me to have a nice day and was on his way. This guy was not here to sell me something because he was too busy doing his job. I was the ending to his service of process. He could now go home or serve more people important papers. I actually felt a little bad I made him wait as long as I did.

I actually never had to go to court, but it was interesting being in the middle of the service of process and receiving important court paperwork. They actually settled the situation out of court which saved me the time and energy of being a witness. I am a busy person, but I was willing to do my part if it came that. I have lived here for eight years and this guy was only the second person who showed up at my door (that I didn't know) that wasn't trying to sell me something. I guess I have a reason to hide when the doorbell rings.
