Famous People Who Died On January 2

Dying is just like taxes in the respect that it is going to happen to you and me. Over history, we realize it doesn't matter who you are, you are going to face death. Famous people have no secret weapon against death. They are just like you and I. They will die. We will die. Death is a part of life. However, many of us look forward to eternal life in Heaven. After we all pass from this world, I hope to meet each one of you in a better place called Heaven.

What Happened on Today in History?

1903- President Teddy Roosevelt shuts down post office in Indianola Mississippi, for refusing to accept its appointed postmistress because she African American
1923- Ku Klux Klan surprise attack on black residential area Rosewood FL, 8 killed (compensation awarded in 1995)
1947- Mahatma Gandhi begins his march for peace in East-Bengali
1965- Martin Luther King Jr. begins a drive to register African American voters
Deaths on January 2nd

1827-1863 - Roger Weightman Hanson was a Confederate brigadier-General, was mortally wounded on a suicidal assault on Union lines, he died a couple of days later.
1821-1904 - James Longstreet was a Confederate general, one of the foremost confederate generals, subordinate to Robert E. Lee, served under Lee as a Corps Commander, was considered the finest corps commander in the army of northern Virginia.
?-1923- Sam Carter was an African American resident of Rosewood Florida who was lynched by KKK, was killed in the Rosewood massacre, five other African Americans and 2 white people were also murdered.
1883-1945- Betram Home Ramsay was an English Admiral/Commander Naval Forces (Normandy); he died in a plane crash on his way to an important meeting.
1919-1960 - Fausto Coppi, Italian, ran world record 45,798 km, he was a prisoner of war in World War II, he won the Tour De France twice (1949, 1952) and the World Championships in 1953
1905-1974 - Tex Ritter was a famous country singer (5 Star Jubilee); member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, also played in many Western movies, John Ritter was Tex Ritter's son. John Ritter died in 2003 on September 11th.
1935-1980 - Larry Williams, rocker, "Dizzie Miss Lizzie", John Lennon was a fan of Larry Williams, he was also a long-time friend of Little Richard, he had a drug addiction problem and was found dead with a bullet hole in his head, his death was considered suicide, but was suspicious.
1929-1981- David Lynch, singer who was a member of The Platters, The Platters formed in 1953, he died of cancer, he was tenor for The Platters, "The Great Pretender", "You Got That Magic Touch"
1914-1986 - Bill Veeck was an American baseball executive who was known as "Sport Shirt Bill", he was owner of the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox; he was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991
1957-2007 - Garry Betty was the American CEO of Earthlink which was a huge internet provider; he built Earthlink from 500,000 members to over 5 million members.
1950-2007 - Dan Shaver was NASCAR driver and ARCA race car driver/owner, he founded Shaver Motorsports, and he drove the 49 car in NASCAR Busch series races
