The Advancement Of Dentistry

I was never a real fan of dentists. I remember the whining of the drill when I was a kid and the pain I felt. After that first visit, I never wanted to go back. I spent ten years running from the dentist and that noisy drill. I have talked to other people over the years who were also afraid of the dentist. Those childhood memories were both shocking and frightening to all of us. The problem was my teeth were getting bad over the years with no visits to the dentist. I was seventeen years old with two hollowed out teeth in my mouth. The pain was awful and i'm sure it was not having a good affect on my health. I had to see a dentist, but I just could not get past those memories from the first visit.

I finally joined the army and flew to Missouri for basic training. After a few weeks, my drill SGT. noticed there was something wrong with me. He asked me what was wrong with my mouth. I told him I had two bad teeth, but I did not like dentists. The next day, I was scheduled for the dentist. I didn't even have to Schedule an Appointment. The drill SGT. did it for me with a overly large smile on his face. I was afraid, but the dentist was actually cool. They took X-Rays and told me what I already knew. I had two teeth that needed to come out. The dentist told me they would be out in a hurry without any pain. Sure enough, I felt no pain and my bad teeth were removed.

I reported back to the drill SGT. at the mess hall. He snickered to his friends and told me I still had to eat lunch. They laughed at me as I tried to eat. I didn't feel the food as it drooled down the side of my face. The dill SGT. really got a big laugh that day at my expense. I didn't completely lose out in the deal. My two bad teeth were gone, I was no longer afraid of dentists and I am sure my health was the better for the experience. I was amazed at how advanced dentistry had become in the ten years I stayed away. Now I go to the dentist to make sure all of my teeth are in the best shape possible with no worries.
