Samuel Ward, American politician, was an American farmer, shop keeper, and statesman from Westerly, Rhode Island. He twice served as a colonial Governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations and later as a delegate to the Continental Congress. He died on this day in 1776
