Arthur Godfrey, TV host (Arthur Godrey Show), Arguably the most prominent of the medium's early master commercial pitchmen, he was strongly identified with many of his many sponsors, especially Chesterfield cigarettes and Lipton Tea. After he was diagnosed with lung cancer, Arthur Godfrey became a prominent spokesman for anti-smoking education- He was the grandfather to The Real Housewives of Washington, DC cast member Mary Schmidt Amons, he died on this day in 1983
