Jim Thorpe was a decathlete and Olympic Gold Medalist in 1912 in both the Pentathlon and Decathlon-He was also an NFL Hall of Fame player and played MLB. Jim Thorpe spent much of his post professional career as an alcoholic and a poor man struggling through the Great Depression, he died on this day in 1953
