Kintpuash, "Captain Jack" was chief of Modoc-Indians, he led his people into the wastelands during the Modoc war into a natural fortress known as Captain Jack's Stronghold, and he was eventually captured and hanged for the murders of General Candy and Reverend Thomas. He died on this day in 1873
