About the book:
Paperback; 245 pages
Pastor Don Piper died January 18, 1989 when a semi-tractor truck crushed his car.  Declared dead by the first rescue workers to arrive on the scene, Don's body lay under a tarp for the next 90 minutes.  Don's soul, meanwhile, was experiencing love, joy, and life like he'd never known before.  Don was in Heaven.

When another pastor's prayers helped bring Don back to life, he became a living miracle!  Yet this is one miracle Don wished never happened.  Heaven's bliss was replaced by excruciating pain and emotional turmoil.  With the support and prayers of his beloved Eva, their three kids, and friends near and far, Don clings to his faith in God and fights to regain a semblance of his previous life.  The Piper family's incredible true story of perseverance and overcoming the challenges of life - and death - will bring hope and encouragement to all who see it.

I had never heard of Don Piper of his book 90 Minutes in Heaven. Like most people, I have had my experiences that made me wonder about heaven. My mother died young at 49, my best friend died of cancer and I had a close call with death two years ago. I had to have surgery to have cancer cut off my kidney. They had to cut me open, move internal organs and cut into my kidney. The operation was a success, but I was sent home too early, 3 days after major kidney surgery. I was also told to walk. One night, I had severe pain, so I called the doctor on call. He told me to double up on my medicine. I did, but the pain did not go away.I had yet to completely go to sleep, It was early Thanksgiving morning and something or somebody kept telling me in my head don't go to sleep. Then the same voice told me to tell my wife to call 911. Within a few minutes, there were eight firemen in my house. They checked me out and the guy in charge yelled to the other guys, "Call an ambulance now!" By the time they found out my kidney was hemorrhaging, did emergency surgery and moved me to intensive care, my blood level went from 1600 to 587. I had to have blood transfusions, but just spent a day (Thanksgiving Day) in intensive care. My wife asked the nurse about my condition and she said I was lucky. If I did not make it to the hospital when I did, I would have bleed out and died. I spent another week in the hospital and it took a good amount of time for me to heal. The doctor told me the cancer is gone and it should never come back. They check me once a year to make sure. Obviously I survived and my story is not as amazing as Don's, but his story made me feel much better about death and what lies ahead for us when we leave this world.

I understand his not wanting to leave Heaven to live in this world with all his handicaps. It's hard enough to go through two major surgeries and spend less than two weeks in the hospital. I also always wondered about those loved ones that left this world. My friend who died from cancer, felt unworthy to be able go to heaven. He was in the mafia, left, became a Christian and later spent the rest of his life writing and singing gospel music. I now believe he is waiting for me in Heaven. This book is incredible and it will make you realize that Heaven is real place. I can't wait for the movie because it will bring this great book to life.
