If you are like I am, you are looking forward to the new season of the Walking Dead which is just around the corner in October. If you can't wait, you are in luck. Have you checked out Tropicana Field and the Rays lately? The Walking Dead have infected the Rays and Tropicana Field.
I'm not sure when it all began. The Rays vs. Red Sox series was supposed to be one of the highlights of the years. The Red Sox decided to give their players away and the Rays have become zombies in MLB uniforms. To make matters worse, the fans have stayed away from Tropicana Field because they know about the infection. They would rather watch the action on television (at home) where they are protected from the spreading disease.
The few fans who show up, walk into Tropicana Field at a slow steady pace. Each one competing with the next to get on the popular television show. After six or seven innings, the fans become zombies right in front of your eyes. They have spent three hours watching their team go through the motions one more time. They have nothing to cheer about except maybe one or two hits that find their way through the infield and die in a field of dreams.
The most action in the series (thus far) was when Alex Cobb went after Jose Molina. I really thought he was going to bite that guy, but he was pushed back by wooden sticks and a mob in baseball uniforms. Suddenly, everything went back to normal. No blood, not guts and no action.
It is a shame the Walking Dead infected the Rays and Tropicana Field. It was a good season until the zombies took over Joe Maddon and his Rays. No manager of the year for this guy this time. At least he will be able to spend the off season watching our favorite show, The Walking Dead. Somebody should have told the Rays that October is zombie season, not September....

It's Time For The Rays To Upgrade With A New Stadium
The Tampa Bay Rays are in first place in the American League East. They have a 9-1 record at home and they are one of the best teams in baseball. The Rays have an exciting team, with good pitching and defense. You would think all of their games are sold out, but they are not. Monday night, the Rays beat the Seattle Mariners in front of 9500 fans, last night the Rays beat the Seattle Mariners in front of just under 10,000 fans. Tropicana Field holds 37000 fans, more if you open up all of the covered seats in the upper deck. The question is why the Ray's attendance is low at Tropicana Field.
Tropicana Field Itself-Tropicana Field is ugly from the inside out. The stadium does not look like or play like a Major League Baseball Stadium. The downstairs is well-taken care of, but the upstairs is ugly. The downstairs is cleaned well, but the upper deck is dirty and stays dirty the entire year. When it rains, the upstairs leaks all over the place. There is nothing upstairs for children. All the fun stuff is downstairs. If you don't have the money to pay for the good seats, you get stuck in the upper deck prison of Tropicana Field. The people in the stadium are nice, but it does not make the stadium nicer. The only thing upstairs is a party deck, bar and a few food stands which are not open when the stadium is empty. Tips-during slow weekday games, the owners of the Rays should have $5 tickets and food specials to get more fans out to the stadium. You don't make a dime from empty seats. Put something fun upstairs for children. Give fans a reason to come back to Tropicana Field. There is no longer free parking at Tropicana Field, the food and drinks are too expensive.
St. Petersburg-St Petersburg is not a fabulous town. The place is fun to visit, but the beaches are the most desirable part of the city. St. Petersburg is touted as the most depressing and most dangerous city in America. Makes you want to visit the place. St. Petersburg is dangerous, the economy is bad and many homeless people walk the streets. There are also gangs around the city who are looking for some action. Tropican Field is in a horrible location, a place where people just don't feel safe. It is in an area where even police officers have been killed. The only person who thinks the Tampa Bay Rays should continue to play in Tropicana Field is the mayor of St. Petersburg. Even the expensive mall downtown went out of business.
Location and Transfer-The population around Tropicana Field does not have enough people to guarantee a sellout every night. Many people in St. Petersburg are fans of other Major League Baseball teams. There are NY Yankee fans, Boston Red Sox fans and other fans from other Major League Baseball teams. They come when their team is playing and their team is not the Tampa Bay Rays. Many of the Spring Training stadiums are sold out every game because their fans support their team. Sadly, most of the Spring Training facilities are better baseball stadiums than Tropicana Field.
Can The Tampa Area Support A Major League Baseball Team?-yes, but the team has to be good (The Tampa Bay Rays are excellent) the stadium has to be up to date (Tropicana Field is outdated) The location has to be accessible to more people (Tropicana Field is accessible to a small group of people) Large companies have to support the team (The Tampa Bay Rays do not have enough support from large companies)

The Rays Win Again
The Rays beat the Yankees 8-6 to take a 2-0 lead in the opening series of the 2012 Major League Baseball season. David Price pitched a decent game, while the Rays bats came alive for the second game in a row. Tropicana fan was filled with fans,Rays and Yankees fans were sprinkled throughout the stadium. Once again, the Yankee fans go home unhappy and have to cry in their beers.

A Day At The Park With My Children
My children love to go to the local park so they can have a good time. They love to play for hours at a time. I don't mind because the park is safe and it has that new Rubber Mulch which is much better than the old stuff. The time we spend in the park is fun time together and my children get the exercise they need. My son is a video game lover and it is always good to get him out of the house where he can play.
The new park is usually crowded, but it is nice. They have monkey bars, slides and a bunch of swings. My children like to run around in the mulch and usually want me to run around with them. Good thing I am in good shape for a middle-aged man because they have more energy than one person needs. We played as long as we could, but had to stop because we had a ballgame to go to in the afternoon.
My son loves sports. He loves baseball, football and soccer. I'd rather keep him away from football because I think it is too dangerous. He loves to play the games and he loves to go to the stadiums and watch the games. His sister likes to go and watch the Rays play, but only because her brother is a sports fan. She likes to do most of the things her brother does because she loves him.
Last year, the Rays put down new turf and it looks good. On the way to the ballpark, I noticed they build new condos right next to Tropicana Field. The landscape mulch looked really cool. It reminded me of the recycled rubber mulch at my children's favorite park. The mulch looked just as good next to the condos as it did at the park. The people who built the condos must really care about the environment.
The Rays game was fun and they won. My children got a bobblehead for the giveaway, ate cotton candy, hot dogs and had a really good time. After the game, when we were driving home, my children talked about their favorite park. My daughter asked me if we could go there every day. She also said she wanted to live there, but that's what she says when she is happy. My son said he couldn't wait until we went back so they could play. I thought to myself and smiled. I loved the park too, but I enjoyed the park because of the smiles I saw on both of my children's faces.
The next day, I took them to their favorite park again. They spend another three hours running through the rubber mulch and playing around. Today, they spent most of their time swinging on the swings. They wanted their dad to take turns pushing each one of them. My arms eventually got tired, but it was worth it. My kids had another great time with their father. I think we might want to make this park thing a family tradition.
